Importance of Vaccinating

Understanding the importance of vaccines and the role they play in preventing diseases can help you Be Vaccine Smart. Vaccine-preventable diseases are still common. Dogs and Cats of all ages and breeds may be at risk of contracting one or more infectious diseases. Vaccinations are the cornerstone of preventive health and can protect your pets from illnesses or death. Vaccination is one of the best ways to prepare dogs’ and cats’ immune systems to stop diseases.

DALP/C, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines are the three yearly vaccines our veterinarian’s recommend to keep your dog protected. We offer these vaccines in an Annual Package. The annuals also include a nail trim, ear cleaning, intestinal parasite exam, and an exam with the Doctor.

DALP/C is our combination vaccine for dogs. It protects your dog from the following common diseases:
Distemper- a nervous system disease
Leptospirosis and Hepatitis- an infectious disease of the liver and kidneys
Adenovirus- a canine infectious respiratory disease
Parvovirus- a gastrointestinal disease

Bordetella Bronchiseptica, more commonly known as kennel cough, is preventable with our intranasal Bordetella vaccine. Kennel Cough is known to cause infection and inflammation in the lungs and respiratory passages of dogs.

Rabies is a fatal nervous system disease in dogs and cats. Because rabies is a significant health hazard, it is extremely important to vaccinate your pet. In the State of Louisiana, rabies vaccines are required for dogs and cats.

Even though some vaccines can be purchased at feed and supply stores, it is recommended to bring your pet to the veterinarian for vaccinations. Bringing your pet in on a yearly basis gives the veterinarian a chance to exam your pet for overall wellness.
