Is your pet going on vacation with you? Here are some helpful tips and reminders that will make vacation planning with your pet a breeze.
• If your pet is on any medications or daily supplements, be sure to have enough on hand for the duration of your trip.
• We recommend calling ahead to find out if the airport, hotel, etc. has any restrictions regarding pets or if they have requirements that will need to be met such as vaccinations or documentation of good health.
• Remember to bring food especially if your pet has a sensitive stomach or uses a prescription diet. You will also need to bring bowls for food and water.
• Familiarize yourself with pet friendly places along your route.
Is your pet staying at home while you are on vacation? Here are some helpful tips and reminders that will make vacation planning with your pet a breeze.
• Make arrangements for a responsible family member or pet sitter to care for your pet. They will need to be fed, watered, and let out for exercise. Before leaving for vacation, it is a good idea to let your pet meet the care giver to make sure he/she is comfortable with that person.
• If you do not have someone who is available to care for your bed at home we recommend bringing them to a reputable boarding facility.
• Be sure to call ahead to find out requirements for boarding. Most boarding facilities require documentation that your pet is fully up to date on vaccinations. Some may require documentation of good health.
• If your pet is on any medications or daily supplements, be sure to leave enough on hand for the caregiver or boarding facility. You should also provide the care giver or boarding facility detailed instructions for administering the medication.
• Remember to leave plenty of food especially if your pet has a sensitive stomach or uses a prescription diet.
• Make sure the care giver or boarding facility has your veterinarian’s name and phone number. Also let your veterinarian know that you will be out of town for these dates and (care giver/boarding facility) will be caring for your animal.
***Even if your pet is staying at your house or the hotel, airport, boarding facility, etc. does not require vaccinations, we highly recommend making sure your pet is up to date. If you travel through an area heavily populated with pets you will have peace of mind knowing your dog is protected from potential diseases. If you find yourself in an emergency situation and need to board your pet last minute, you will have fulfilled the requirements to do so.
