Preventative Medicine

By

We offer a full range of vaccines for Dogs and Cats of all ages. Vaccines protect your pet from potentially deadly diseases. We recommend talking to one of our veterinarians about what vaccines your pet needs. Some vaccines, such as rabies, are recommended for all pets, while other vaccines are species specific or based on your pet’s exposure level to the disease prevented by that particular vaccine.

Keeping your pet free of heartworms is important for their health as well. Heartworms are a potentially fatal parasite transmitted by mosquitoes that primarily infects dogs and cats. However, Heartworm infection is preventable in dogs and cats.

For Dogs we recommend Proheart 6, which is an injectable heartworm prevention that is administered by your veterinarian to your pet twice a year to prevent heartworms.

For cats we recommend Bravecto Plus. Bravecto Plus is a topical applied directly on the skin between the shoulder blades. It prevents against heartworms, fleas, and ticks for 8 weeks.

Companion Therapy Laser

We have a new non-invasive way to treat your small or large animal. In late 2011 we added a therapy laser to our hospital. The therapy laser works to increase blood flow and decrease inflammation in the affected area. It has proven to be successful in many of our patients with Osteoarthritis. The therapy laser can be used to treat many issues ranging from arthritis to ear infections and even speed healing time on wounds.

Spaying

By

Spaying your pet has many benefits. The procedure, which prevents female animals from becoming pregnant and reproducing, can help your dog or cat live a longer, healthier life. Spaying will notchange your pet’s personality.

By spaying your female pet, you’re protecting her against potentially deadly diseases, including bacterial infections, reproductive tract diseases, and several types of cancer. You also won’t have to worry about her going into heat. This means avoiding the mess that often accompanies the heat cycle in female dogs and the pacing and crying that happens with female cats. In addition, spaying your pet will help control the dog and cat overpopulation problem, keeping more animals out of shelters.

Spaying, which involves removing the ovaries and uterus, is a surgical procedure and does need to be performed with the pet under anesthesia. We follow strict protocols and continually monitor your pet’s vital signs to help ensure her safety. Please see the descriptions under Anesthesia and Patient Monitoring for more information on what we do to keep your pet safe.

To set up an appointment to have your pet spayed or to learn more about this procedure, call or visit our clinic. If you are struggling with the decision of whether to spay your pet, please call us so we can discuss your concerns.

Ultrasound

By

An ultrasound exam is a way of looking inside your pet’s body (liver, kidneys, and intestines) without having to perform surgery. The ultrasound machine sends sound waves into the body and then listens for the echoes, the machine then uses these echoes to form a picture of the inside of your pet!

Ultrasound exams are performed for many reasons. In human medicine, most of us think about ultrasound exams during pregnancy. However, in veterinary medicine, because ultrasound is a safe, repeatable way to look inside the body, it has become a very useful tool for many other situations.

Ultrasound allows us to examine internal organs for location, size, shape, texture and blood supply. Unfortunately, ultrasound does not always give us a clear picture of how well the specific organ is working; this may be determined by other tests such as blood work or additional imaging.
